Director’s intro:

Born and raised in South Africa, Daniel Zimbler directs both for the stage and screen. He is a graduate at Columbia University's MFA film program, where he has also taught undergraduate directing. Daniel received his BA Honours from Oxford University, an MPhil in International Relations from Cambridge University, and worked as an analyst at the South African think-tank the Center for Conflict Resolution, where published an edited volume on African human rights legal architecture. He is currently directing his second Off-Broadway show (Southern Discomfort, [email protected] Soho Playhouse) and has recently launched the first episode of his comedy web-series, UNDERSTUDIES (understudiestheshow.com). His forthcoming short film, Socks & Bonds, stars Tony nominee Alison Fraser, Stephen Singer and Stephen Rowe in a comedy-drama set in Long Island.

Happy to discuss my experience of and engagement with Chinese cinema (both past and present); the possibilities of Chinese-American-European(-African!) film collaboration and exchange, etc.
